Computer savy :)

On New Years Eve ( well technically New years morning) I managed to break the LCD screen on my MAC and found out that it would cost about the same as buying a new one just to get it fixed. So for the last 7 months I have been using half a screen and saying that  I would fix it myself.

About a week ago I got around to ordering a new LCD screen and when I got it immediatley began to take apart my computer. I sat there for a while trying to fix it but couldn't. Thats when I realized that they had sent me the wrong screen. My computer has been sitting on the floor in pieces ever since.

Today, I finally recieved the right screen and after a few minor set backs I now have a fully functioning screen... sure I have three screws left over, which I have no idea where they belong but my computer doesn't seem to be falling apart.  All in all I am very proud of myself for finally getting around to fixing my screen and that I didn't mess it up too badly.

Kelsey even told me I was glowing :)

Farmers market

So yesterday I went on a little walk that lead me to the Iowa City farmers market which i've wanted to go to for a while now. I forgot how many different things they sold there! I loved it.

They had chocolate chip banana bread yum :) and snow cones (double yum). They also had this apple wine which I was going to try but forgot to go back to it before I left, I guess I'll just have to try it next time. They also had tamales :) which is a mexican food I was really excited and bought some that was my first purchase :) They weren't as good as my g-ma's or my aunts but no ones are. I also loved all the zucchinis, yellow squashes, cucumbers, and tomatoes. I love veggies :) and i just had to buy to some zucchini which I am super excited to go home and cook.

I am excited to go back next week for the wine and maybe the chocolate chip banana bread.

and that was the highlight of my day... well besides finding a book in the non-fiction section of the library called "how to be a vampire" it included sections on how to become a vampire, what to do after getting bit, and how to tell your parents you were a child of the night.   Interesting right?

Cursed?

So if you didn't already know Kelsey and I went to a Pyschic a few months back and although she had a lot of good things to say about me, she did tell me that someone was trying to stop me from succeeding and cursed me. I'm kinda starting to belive it.

As you may know I had everything planned for post graduation, to bad all those plans are now falling through. I had a job (with benefits) lined up but thats no longer happening because people decided to stay which means no openings BOOOO  but I guess thinking about it, this doesnt make me cursed it just turns me into every other college student post graduation. But still I had a job up until 2 days ago.

I guess its okay its given me the opportunity to apply to jobs out side of my current job and there are a lot of openings that  i'm qualified for... hopefully i'll get a call back before my student status is over :)

PS I plan on breaking this curse how... idk the only thing I can think of is true loves kiss... i watch to many disney movies :)

and im back

So after the wonderful A.hughes decided to begin blogging again I figured I would too( I guess im a follower lol)

There is only one problem with this... my computer is currently torn apart since I decided to be adventurous and replace the LCD screen myself (it wasn't to successful but only because they sent me the wrong screen, or at least I hope that was the only problem.) So i am currently at work and about to get off, but I did make my blog prettier :)

21 ordinance

So the Iowa City City Council has once again brought up the 21 ordinance, making it so anyone under the age of 21 can't get into the bars...Brilliant...yea not so much

So the first time they tried this 2 years ago it failed miserably... thank goodness because I wasn't 21 yet :)
But if they seriously think it will help decrease binge drinking underage I'm going to go with FALSE.
While watching about 30 minutes of the city council meeting tonight I have come up with the following thoughts:

1) If youre not a good public speaker, you will sound very unprepared and not as persuassive -even if you have a speech written out- compared to someone who is a good public speaker who wings it

2)Older residents bring up very good points ... especially when they are anti the 21 ordinance because they drank once upon a time too :)

3)As an older resident of Iowa city why are you living on the 400 block of South Johnson? of course people are going to make noise at night 21 or not.

4) People should not bring up the point that you dont see surgeons, established lawyers, or flight pilots getting drunk downtown... 1) how many surgeons or lawyers do you know under the age of 25 2) of course theyre not downtown they can afford to buy a real drink ( by that I mean something that costs more than 2 dollars) 3) im sure before they were true professionals they were downtown too

5)Dont tell me how hard biology classes, chemistry classes, and law classes are... I KNOW..you dont especially when you haven't been in college or had any schooling for 50 years ...and dont tell me that we dont go out for fun and we just go to let go of reality ( which may be true at times but still ) reality= no fun  it equals working 8 hour days, studying all night, and all that not so fun stuff we have to do.

6)Why did we ever stop pregaming??? it was so much cheaper when we were underage because we'd be drunk before we got to the bars.

7) Some of the people on the council were anti-21 while they were running for election and now that they are an elected official they are pro the 21 ordinance... government is full of liars (which i already knew)

8) Please don't compare this to seat belt laws...I'm taking a whole class on health transition and health disparities ...keeping kids out of the bar isnt going to keep them from drinking (especially here in IC) so there's going to be no transition what so ever related to health... trust me we talked about it in class my professor also brought up these points ... the only way to change it is to keep them from drinking entirely and to keep us 21-25 year olds from drinking as much also.

9) People have interesting arguments

10) This is just stupid... if it passes I'm moving to Des Moines ;) ... thats for you KSloss(that was too)

Spring Break 2010!

Spring Break 2010 aka my last official spring break of my undergraduate career. So of course this is blog is being written on the sandy beaches of florida  from my bedroom as I avoid putting away my laundry.  Yes I am quite sad that I am not spending my last spring break getting tattoos, getting drunk at a Joes crab shack at 4pm while being underage, attending random Frat parties in Texas, and going clubbing (all a part of last years spring break )
This spring break should be a bit calmer but it has had a good start considering I started it out with the Dashboard Confessional concert Friday night with my friends Kinsey, Abby, and TJ :)

All in all it was a great concert ... we were mere feet away from the all too wonderful  Chris Carrabba (the lead singer) and we got to listen to some of our favorite songs like vindicated, hands down, and my new favorite song of theirs Belle of the boulevard.  Hopefully the rest of break gets a bit more exciting than last few days but that is yet to be seen :)

and the nomination goes to ME!

So today I was checking my e-mail and I saw that I had a message from my old mentor and it was an email telling me how they had recently been going over the graduating class to see who they could nominate for a leadership award at the up coming  Multicultural Graduation & Recognition Banquet and I was nominated. :)

I don't really know what its all about but I think its cool :) Go me!

living for today

So lately i've been thinking a lot of things to come in life and  have been in this sort of transition state  trying to figure out the kind of person I am and want to be. Which could explain my adding of things to my bucket list such as teaching english in Chile next year (given that it will still be a possibility after the recent tragedy there) and working with the unite for sight program which i'll blog about after my training.

Well today i've been hit with a lot of quotes that deal with living in the present and not in the past, or future. The first being in church, the second being while watching a spanish soap (i do this from time to time when i get home sick and miss my mom) , and the third while reading another friends travel abroad blog.  So even though I am worried about the future and trying to figure things out right now I'm really thinking that maybe I should listen to this advice and ""not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself." ~Matthew 6

Because we all have a type

So most everyone has a type of person they are attracted to , and for me that "type" is your typical everyday skater boy/dirtbiker/ snowboarder/ you get the picture... the type of boys that my friends like to refer to as  "douchebags" although most of them aren't . All it takes to make me go Gaga ( no not lady Gaga just gaga) is a "skater" t-shirt and  backwards matching hat ...throw in some matching skater shoes and i'm basically in love .
just an example of what i'm talking about

Oh and having an athletic build doesn't hurt either

Of course not every one can have this bod... thats just unrealistic ...but a girl can dream right?

and although i do like skater boy clothing I also love the white tee with blazer jeans and converse look, which Zac Efron perfected in HSM. Unfortunately there's no good picture of the entire look
but heres as close as i got

Any way you may be thinking why i would go into all this detail to describe my perfect boy (look wise)?
Well as i was walking home today i had a nice little encounter with what from far away looked like my perfect boy. He had on the backwards hat with the matching t-shirt, had a fit body (from what i could tell) , and he was cute too. I was smitten. As this dream boy got closer and closer riding up on his white horse skateboard, I got a surprise... It was a guy i knew... not just any guy either... a guy who I once used to annoy me so much because i thought he was full of himself  (since i've gotten to know him iv'e realized he's a much nicer, cooler,  and less stuck up person than i once thought) but no matter how much i now "like" this guy... in the friend way... it still broke my heart a little to find out that my dream guy , the guy who was totally "MY TYPE" was in fact someone i already knew, someone who will never be my perfect skater boy.

it really is the little things

So i dedicate this post to the most wonderful Allison Hughes for two reasons
1)Its is her birthday :) Happy Birthday
2)this post goes off her last post

Anyway while I sit here at the library debabting wheter Iwant to sit here for the next four hours rewriting a paper to get the average grade of the two papers ( im really thinking no at this point... considereing after reading the "A" paper they gave us they have ridiculous expectations...even this paper got harsh critiques..like 2 typed pages worth of critiques I only got a third of one but no A ...wtf) anyway while debating this I got on facebook only to see a picture of a certain someone at his sisters wedding with another girl ...the girl who he also flew to NY to see... (not bitter at all)... and everyone keeps commenting about how they are perfect for each other ...gag. obviously this didnt put me in a good mood.

But then I was going thourgh my book bag to find my old paper when i find a piece of gum ...and this one piece of gum just made everything better and then on pandora my current favorite song telephone by lady gaga and beyonce came on :)

so yes it is the little things in life that can make or break your day

7 semesters to late

So i just ran into this online today and found it entertaining... obviously i should have found this 7 semesters ago to know that I should have been econ. major. Which probably wouldn't get me far these days thanks to this thing called a recession.

pic messaging

I have been cursed with a phone that doesn't allow me to get picture messaging... or maybe its my phone plan but i'm pretty sure its my phone... anyway since I haven't been able to get picture messages I have realized that it is basically a necessity, and heres why.

As I was walking to class today I had two instances where picture messaging would have come in handy, yes I could have just as easily described the situation but a picture is worth a thousand words 1) I saw a boy wearing what i refer to as a "Blair" outfits... grey sweats with the boots and 2) I was walking behind a couple who had a young daughter all with dreads 3) I totally saw what kelsey would refer to as a Transformer car.

Picture messaging would have been great in all these situations plus many others i encounter in my day to day live ... needless to say it would also be great to receive picture messages from everyone instead of hearing "I wanted to send you a picture text but i'll just tell you instead."

Vending Machine War

After a semi-long day of work today (4 whole hours) I was really craving a Twix so I left 5 minutes early so I could make a quick stop at the vending machine on my way out and not miss the bus to class. I get to the lovely vending machine and am very excited for the twix bar thats soon to be mine but then it all took a turn for the worse.

First of all the vending machine wouldn't take dollar bills , wtf what kind of cruel trick was that, so me being me decided to do what I normally do in this situation ...stick my dollar bill in another machine and get back quarters. Normally this works but of course not today. It wouldn't return my dollar bill or give me quarters, so i ended up with a powerade and not just any powerade a powerade zero. As my lovely beverage was being vended to me the bus pulled up, I quickly grabbed my drink and sped walked towards the door and guess what?!?!? I missed the bus. yay me.
Since I now had ten minutes to sit around and wait for the next bus to shuttle me across the river to class i decided to use the potty and take another whack at this twix thing. By this time I REALLY REALLY wanted this twix. I went through my book bag and found 1.25 in quarters ( kind of ridiculous for a Twix, but whatever. ) I inserted it into the vending machine and began to push the buttons D10... but then a horrible thing happened , I didn't notice there was a 10 button and instead started to type in 10 so i pushed D1 ...out comes a chocolate chip granola bar...

So not only did I not get my twix today but missed the bus and ended up with a powerade zero and granola bar
I think this is Gods way of telling me I should workout instead of eating a Twix

Post from the lib.

So i'm currently at the library working on my paper, ok so i'm pretending to write my paper and actually blogging, which basically only happens when i'm avoiding something.

Anyway, i really don't have much of anything exciting to blog about today considering i've spent the majority of week at the library studying for my biochem test that I had earlier today and am now here once again working on a paper about candida albicans ,there's the link in case you feel like reading about a yeast. Besides this yeast and the structure of all 20 amino acids here are a few things i've learned in the past couple days:

1) As a SSS (second semester senior ... not skinniest sloss sister) I have no desire to actually write this paper even though my desire to study for tests has increased

2) I don't want to write a paper about a paper that one of my professors wrote because if i say the wrong thing ( for example this paper is awful) i might fail the class

3)There is no need to have 5 professors for a class with 12 people in it... and absolutley no need for each one to give the class an outline on how to write this paper ..especially if they are all different ... its called collaborating people

4) The library is full of interesting people

5) It also contains smelly people ... and couples that like PDA

6) I might start taking this blogging thing serisously .. which means I need a new catchy title for my blog since mine is basically lame

7) Lent is next week ...which means mardi gras celebrations :)

Ink

So i'm sure since i know all 5 of followers you are all aware that I have a tattoo ( if not then you know now) ... what you may not know is that since I got my tattoo I've had a great desire to add to it and have been contemplating it very seriously.

Well today I decided that I am going to go ahead with my plan, not tomorrow or the day after but probably in a few more months to see if it is still what i want to do ( which it probably will be but i figure i should wait anyway)

Here is my idea I wanted to get a quote added to it and have decided that the quote i want is, love the life you live , it just kind of reminds me that through the good and bad this is my life and i only live it once so there's no reason i shouldn't enjoy and love it. To make it more special to me i want it in Italian ... well because Italy was the best time of my life and I love Italian... the translation would be Vivi la vita che ami.

only thing i really have to think about now is in what direction i want it added to my current tattoo.
